SKIKK & the Environment

Technology with a smaller footprint

As a sustainable company, SKIKK increasingly focuses on ecological and environmentally friendly products – made with respect for people and planet.

Our impact so far

  • Trees protected & planted with WWF
  • CO₂ savings & compensation since 2021
  • Focus on repairability & reusable parts
Together we fight to protect and restore the earth with open, transparent information.

Trees protected / planted with WWF

5.238 (31.428 m²)

These are trees that are protected or planted together with WWF in forests that are managed to last – not production forests.

CO₂ savings & compensation

Total compensation (2025) : 103.018,63 KG
Total compensation : 426.142,75 KG

Since January 2021 we have been saving and compensating CO₂ by using more sustainable materials, production methods and forest protection projects.

WWF Partnership

Plant 1 trillion trees together with WWF

Together with WWF we work on living forests and a livable planet. Our shared long-term goal: protect or plant a trillion trees by 2050.

Many companies use production forests as greenwashing. We don’t. The trees we protect and plant together with WWF are managed as real forests, meant to remain healthy and thriving – not as timber plantations.

Climate compensation

Every SKIKK system can come with trees

When you buy a SKIKK laptop or desktop, you can choose to have WWF plant one or more trees that are meant to stay healthy for life. You decide how many trees you want to add — both at the time of purchase and afterwards — so you can compensate even more CO₂ in a way that fits you.

A typical laptop powered by “grey” electricity produces roughly the same amount of CO₂ in one year as a single tree can absorb through its biomass and oxygen production. By compensating this for at least one year, you can use your laptop with peace of mind, knowing your choice is actively supporting the environment.

Our Green Series devices use an ecologically designed chassis.

2030 goals

Our forest ambitions for 2030

Together with partners like WWF and our customers, we want to contribute to ambitious global forest goals:

  • 50% of all forests worldwide are protected or well managed;
  • Deforestation has stopped;
  • 350 million hectares of forest have been restored.

Protecting areas

We strive to create protected areas and to help manage them properly. This includes involving local communities in stewardship, training rangers and providing essential tools like radio equipment.

Forest restoration

We support forest restoration where it is needed most. That means restoring soil, planting trees and protecting these regions. In doing so we help species like elephants, jaguars and orangutans by reconnecting isolated forest reserves.

Sustainable production & research

Sustainable production, trade & agriculture

Outside protected areas, we encourage responsible forest use. Together with local communities, sustainable methods are developed for forestry, fishing and products like Brazil nuts, coffee and rubber — reducing the need to clear forests for agriculture or livestock.

Research & early warning

Effective nature conservation starts with understanding what needs protection and whether our methods still work. That’s why research is done on species, populations and habitats.

With tools like Early Warning Systems (EWS) we can predict where illegal deforestation is likely to occur — so that authorities and partners can intervene in time and even prevent it.

Materials & recycling

Completely recycled – that is our goal

We aim to make the best products with the highest quality materials. When existing materials do not meet our standards for purity and reliability, we look for new solutions. One example is the special magnesium alloy used for housings in the SKIKK Green and LYNX series — designed to be recyclable without sacrificing quality.

Paper

All paper we use is responsibly produced. Fibres come from recycled or renewable sources and are not bleached with harsh chemicals. Invoices are sent as PDF by email, and receipts are printed on BPA-free thermal paper. When new fibres are needed, suppliers source wood from responsibly managed forests.

Packaging

We use environmentally friendly packaging: recycled cardboard boxes, unbleached recycled paper and eco-friendly tape. Packaging materials from suppliers are reused whenever possible. We also actively encourage suppliers to use sustainable and reusable materials.

Waste

Waste is carefully sorted and offered separately for recycling — for example, cardboard boxes that cannot be reused. In this way we minimize landfill and support circular processing.

Clean energy

Renewable electricity

Our Experience Center, office and data center run on 100% renewable electricity from Vattenfall (formerly NUON), which is committed to the goal of “fossil-free living within one generation”.

“At Vattenfall, we put all our energy into achieving that one goal: fossil-free living within one generation. It’s a big challenge, but step by step we’re producing more fossil-free energy and making a real difference.”

Reuse & repair

Reusable parts & right to repair

Many customers already own components such as RAM or SSDs that can be reused in their next laptop. We actively promote buying a new system without these parts and reusing existing ones — reducing overconsumption and electronic waste.

We believe products should last longer. If they break, they should be repairable. That requires products designed for repair. SKIKK’s philosophy is that customers have the right to open, upgrade, downgrade and repair their devices. We are working to improve this further, for example by publishing repair manuals online.

Transport

Greener shipping

We use PostNL and UPS as our standard logistics partners. PostNL aims to reduce all logistics-related CO₂ emissions by 100% by 2040 and UPS by 20250. By minimizing fossil fuel use and optimizing logistics and transport, PostNL and UPS play a leading role in sustainable logistics — and we choose to be part of that change.

Suppliers

Responsibility throughout the chain

We set high standards for ourselves and our suppliers in labour and human rights, health and safety, environmental practices and responsible sourcing of raw materials. Where necessary, suppliers are repeatedly reminded and supported to meet these expectations.

Solidarity & diversity

People first – inside and outside SKIKK

We believe we can only reach our ambitions if employees can truly be themselves. SKIKK is proud to be an LGBTQ-friendly company. With diverse perspectives and talents, we are more creative, more innovative and better equipped to understand and serve our customers.

Sustainable banking

With ING’s Terra approach, we also choose sustainable banking and financing, aligning our financial decisions with climate goals.

Healthy food

At our headquarters, fresh fruit is available for all employees. As much as possible, this fruit is organic and comes from local farmers — supporting both health and local, sustainable agriculture.
